Ok all - I will do my best to describe what
i have found with these radio's
Plus Some hints And tips
This Will Be an Ongoing page & will update as i progress

Channel Capacity
80 Channels
00-79

Options that can be fitted
Selcall
CTCSS
Data Control Head

Options already in radio
Scanning Variable rate
80 Chans in one bank
Status
and the radio's seem to be very well shielded actually
theres seems to be over kill in some areas of these radios
Some of the old RT-85's were used as the original 007 mobile phones
on 500 Mhz you might remember these in the 80's when melb only had 3 towers
for the 007 mobile service 1 on the Rialto 1 at Pretty Sally & 1 at Mt Dandy
Now look at whats happend The damm towers are everywere

Special Programer (grrrrr)
These radio's require a special dedicated programer
from what i hear they are very hard to find
so the simple answer is to program the rom via your eprom programer
be it a Dick Smith one or a good commercial one
Now You could Make up a patch lead from your burner
to the eprom carrier or Just do a little mod to the
carrier board as shown below

So Here is Some Info on what i did

Now For Those that Have the programer Or the Software
Here are some scanned pic's of the Radio with a mod to the
Eprom carrier, all that has been done is
a 24 Pin Socket has been Placed in the Carrier
used for easy removal of the rom
to program it without dedicated Programer see pic here
The radio's Have a 2716 eprom in them and fitting
another rom including the IC socket gets a bit tight
I was Lucky to find a slimline eprom from an old apple machine
which left a few mm between the rom and processor
couldn't beleave my luck
using the normal size eprom's i found they sat flushon top of the
Processor and the plugs had a reasonable grip
But some stiff foam between the case cover and carrier board will keep it
in place the other option is to extend the pins or plugs on the carrier
or even run small patch leads too the carrier mounting it elswere in radio
Anyway Enough Dribble for now Here are the Scanned images
